SARA THOMPSON
I am a fully qualified counsellor and an Accredited member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). After many years in commerce, and a foundation course in homeopathy, I retrained as a counsellor after a life long interest in human behaviour and mental health. I work with individuals of aged 18 and above, using an integrative approach that draws on different therapeutic approaches to best fit each client’s needs. I work in the present, or 'here and now', although allow for exploration of your past experiences in order to inform your choices in the future.
My personal philosophy is that everyone is a unique, dynamic human being. In times of difficulty or stress, we tend to find coping strategies that become stuck in a unhealthy pattern. From the therapeutic relationship that is non-judgmental and empathetic, emerges a self-awareness and inner resourcefulness that brings growth and change. This in turn, allows us to reach our potential and lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.
As well as working within my own private practice, I currently work at Royal Holloway University of London College, specialising in counselling young adults with a wide variety of difficulties.
KAREN WARRINER
I come from a background of many years working in health and education, which is where I first came to recognise the power of positive mental health and well-being; and how this impacts on our ability to live well and engage in healthy relationships
I work with adults and children in private practice, with experience of supporting clients with a wide range of issues and challenges.
I also had the privilege to work in a hospice for a number of years, counselling patients, carers and family members. As such I have a special interest in supporting those with a terminal or life limiting illness or those affected by this issue and bereavement.
All counselling is tailored to individual need, providing personalised support through a warm and engaging therapeutic relationship.
When working with children I use a child centred approach based around attachment theory, incorporating the language of play and creativity to support the counselling process.
In addition, I have experience of supporting individuals with language and communication difficulties, autistic spectrum and learning difficulties and can differentiate to meet individual needs.
